Perhaps more than any other place in Europe, the small Italian city of Florence has come to embody the highest values of Western culture and the greatest triumph of its aesthetic tradition. A. Richard Turner/The Art of Florence

Planning for 2012 and into 2013 VITA Institute for the Arts will present workshops in Colorado during the summer of 2012 and then offer two-week workshops again in Florence and the Tuscan region of Italy in 2013.

VITA Institute will also offer workshops by design for artists and photographers in the Colorado area . Stay tuned for more information.

Vita can also design a special workshop for artists and photographers seeking a personal, unique experience within that groups specif area.

All workshops are for for self motivated painters and photographers. Based on the idea of Novum Est– something new–the normal 2 two-week workshops are designed for self-motivated artists and photographers.

Workshops led by nationally and internationally known artists Don Seastrum, Boris Shoshensky, and Phil Ward offer self-motivated painters and photographers highly individualized programs of study within the structure of a small yet dynamic learning community.

The goal is to extended their formal education by practicing artistic techniques based on but not restricted to the past so they may find their authentic voices as artists.

The VITA Institute for the Arts workshops will introduce participants to the rich artistic culture and heritage of Italy. These traditions can be emulated and applied to contemporary two-dimensional composition concepts providing possible directions for the artist’s future development.

The workshops will encourage each member to investigate her or his own vision of the world by teaching techniques and principles that will build towards our idea of ‘novum est.’

Committed to the idea of authenticity of place, being there, the workshops offer an opportunity to develop painting and photographic skills with purposeful inquiry and creative expression where Michelangelo, da Vinci, and the writers Dante and Machiavelli built on the past but in a new way.

Here your ideas and concepts are your own. You determine your direction behind ideas supported by past creative minds in the home of the Italian Renaissance.

The workshops will cover a variety of media including but not limited to watercolor, oil, acrylic, and photography.

The workshops will also address the nature and essence of works of art including the aspects of process, product, and response.

Developed against an Italian backdrop, the workshops use Italy as a palette to examine compositional questions working from urban Florentine and rural Tuscan landscapes. We pursue the process that great Italian master that can enlighten and inspire contemporary artists.

A majority of the work will be done on site in and around Florence including the galleries, museums, churches, basilicas, and cathedrals of Florence, Siena and San Gimignano.

In addition studio time at Santa Reparata International School of Art will be used for the preparation of on-site assignments, demonstration of techniques, as well as individual and group critiques.

One of the principle goals of the VITA Institute for the Arts is to promote international understanding and cooperation through education and direct contact between the peoples of the United States and Italy.

Institute’s participants will gain this experience by living, working and interacting with the citizens of Florence. Here they experience first hand the fashions, the daily city life, art and culture of this historic city.
